Description
AMLEX 5mg and 10mg are oral antihypertensive medication containing Amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker used primarily for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) and certain types of chest pain (angina). By inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into the smooth muscle cells of the heart and blood vessels, Amlodipine relaxes and widens the blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood and reducing blood pressure. This, in turn, lowers the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes.
Composition
- Amlodipine Besylate: Equivalent to 10mg of Amlodipine (per tablet) for Amlex 10
- Amlodipine Besylate: Equivalent to 5mg of Amlodipine (per tablet) for Amlex 5
Usage
AMLEX 10mg is indicated for:
- Treatment of Hypertension: Helps lower high blood pressure, reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
- Management of Angina Pectoris: Reduces the frequency of chest pain episodes and improves exercise tolerance in individuals with chronic stable angina.
- Coronary Artery Disease: Used to treat coronary artery spasm (Prinzmetal’s or variant angina) and other coronary conditions.
Dosage
For Adults:
- Hypertension & Angina: Start with a dose of 5mg once daily. If necessary, the dose may be increased to 10mg once daily, based on the patient’s response.
- Maximum recommended dose: 10mg per day.
For Elderly or Patients with Liver Impairment:
- A lower starting dose (5mg) may be recommended, with careful titration as needed.
Children (Aged 6-17 Years):
- Starting dose: 2.5mg to 5mg once daily.
Administration: Take the tablet once daily, at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow whole with water.
